Bridget is an avid adventurer, and is happiest when she is outside. Before becoming a teacher, she worked as a wildlife biologist studying fauna in Australia, southern Africa, the Canadian Arctic, and the Rocky Mountains. She taught senior biology and junior high science for several years in Alberta and the Yukon before migrating to her other passion: experiential outdoor education.
Some favourite personal trips include ski traversing from Whistler to Waddington, packrafting the Firth, canoeing the Nahanni, rafting the Grand Canyon, backcountry skiing in Rogers Pass, teaching SCUBA diving in the Philippines, rock climbing in Nevada, and solo tripping Jasper National Park’s North Boundary Trail. Over the past decade, Bridget has taught integrated semester programs for secondary students in the Yukon and B.C., with trips including: 35-day experiential science trip to Vancouver Island (involving caving, intertidal and forestry studies, kayaking, university visits, lectures by scientists, SCUBA diving, etc.), canoeing the Yukon River, bird banding, quinzee (snow cave) camping, backpacking, cycle touring, sea kayaking (in Alaska and BC), avalanche awareness/tenting in snow, and extreme snow angel-ing. She is passionate about exploring and appreciating wild places, and lives to share her enthusiasm with her students. Bridget's current certifications include Wilderness First Responder/CPR, NOLS Instructor (backpacking, sea kayaking), Outdoor Council of Canada Field Leader Instructor (hiking, overnight, winter camping, paddling), PADI Divemasater/Assistant SCUBA Instructor, ACSKG Assistant Sea Kayak Guide, CAA Avalanche Operations Level 1, CRCA Flatwater Canoe Instructor, 300 Hr Yoga Teacher Training, and Swiftwater Rescue II. During the winter, she teaches avalanche safety courses as just another excuse to go skiing. Bridget lives and plays in beautiful Squamish. |
