Their willingness and ability to come prepared demonstrates forethought and preparation, that they are ready for changes of weather and other unplanned events. Safety in the outdoors is our priority, and proactive measures (including packing appropriate clothing and food/water) are always preferable to reacting to poor planning and a lack of preparation. In short, students must use the opportunity to show planning and preparation and self-care on day trips, if they are to be trusted to pack and prepare for extended wilderness trips. Students must bring the following items with them on this, and future, day trips: daypack, full water bottle, food (lunch and snacks), rain jacket and pants, protective layer for pack (e.g. garbage bag liner OR pack cover), toque, warm layer, sunglasses/hat/sunblock.
